A delegation of international and local barley representatives toured South Australia this week to see firsthand the production and quality of the South Australian barley industry.

Hosted by international advisory company, RMI Analytics and sponsored by Glencore Grain, the guests visited growers at Tarlee and Crystal Brook, stopped at the Hart Field Day trial site and toured Viterra’s Bowmans site and Port Adelaide export terminals.

Lyndon Asser, Glencore Grain’s Senior Commercial Manager said the group of 19 representatives learnt more about the reputation of South Australia’s high quality barley.

“The group, made up of maltsters and brewers were very keen to see the supply chain from the growth of barley in crop and through the storage and handling system to the export terminal,” Lyndon said.

“We wanted to give customers the confidence that they will receive a product that meets their exact quality and food safety requirements when buying South Australian grain.

“The South Australian supply chain ensures reliability of supply, quality and efficiencies which makes it an attractive export origin.

“Australia is an ideal clean green environment for grain production, so it is crucial that our quality management maintains that standard from the farm to the customer.”
